Petulu

In the late afternoon every day in Petulu, just North East of Ubud, thousands of herons and egrets come home to roost in the trees that line the road of the village. This is a sight to behold as flocks of birds busily and loudly come into land and settle in the branches of trees where they stay for the night before taking off the next morning. The locals believe these birds are their supernatural guardians and are treated with great honour as they struggle to preserve their habitat. Petulu is approximately 2.5 kilometres from Ubud centre but please note if you stay to see the birds, it will be night upon your return.
